Metal braces are not the only choice you have to straighten your teeth. You have an option, with clear aligners, to have orthodontic treatment without wires or brackets. Clear aligners can provide results that are comparable to metal braces to correct your crooked teeth or problems you have with your bite.

Clear orthodontic aligners can help you if you have minor spacing issues or a mild or moderate amount of overcrowding in your mouth. If you have a severe underbite, overbite, or crossbite, clear aligners may not be the most appropriate solution for you.

The clear aligners are a series of removable, clear trays that fit over your teeth and are worn for a specific amount of time before you can move to the next tray in the series. The aligners can be removed so you can brush and floss your teeth and eat.

Advantages of Clear Aligners

Because they are almost invisible, clear aligners are an advantage for people who don’t want it to be obvious that they are wearing braces. Other advantages of clear aligners include:

  • Comfortable to wear
  • They are smooth and there are no wires to catch on soft tissue
  • No restrictions on what can be eaten
  • Removable for cleaning teeth

On average, clear orthodontic aligners can straighten your teeth between six months to 18 months. After your orthodontic treatment is completed, a retainer should be worn at night to keep your teeth in the corrected position.
