Connecting Your Open Dental Account with denTEL

Integrating your Open Dental account with denTEL ensures a seamless experience by automatically syncing appointments booked via denTEL with your Open Dental Practice Management System (PMS). This integration pushes patient and appointment information directly into your Open Dental software and assigns it to the appropriate operatory.

Step 1: Obtain a Customer Key

  1. Log in to your denTEL practice account.
  2. Navigate to the Locations tab and select the practice location you wish to connect.
    • Note: Ensure you’ve set up the availability for your practice location to prevent appointments from being booked outside operating hours.
  3. Under the Availabilities tab, click on the Connect Your PMS link.
  4. Select Open Dental and click on Settings.
  5. If no customer key has been assigned yet, click Request Key.

Keys are typically assigned within 72 hours, and you’ll receive an email with further instructions.

Step 2: Add the Customer Key to Open Dental

  1. Once you’ve received the customer key via email, open your Open Dental software.
  2. Go to Setup > Advanced > API.

Click Add Key and enter the customer key provided in the email.

Step 3: Complete the Connection in denTEL

  1. Return to denTEL and navigate to the Settings page for the practice location you are connecting.
  2. Verify that your account is now connected. You will be prompted to select an Operatory where appointments will be pushed.
    • If your practice utilizes clinics, you will also be asked to select a Clinic and an Operatory.

Recommendation: Create a dedicated operatory for denTEL appointments to help organize your schedule.

Step 4: Start Receiving Appointments

Once connected, appointments booked via denTEL will automatically sync with your Open Dental system, ensuring a smooth and efficient workflow.
